JMA Submits Cubix Othello for Modular Award

Cubix Othello was recently submitted for the Modular Building Institute’s Award of Distinction.

Cubix Othello, a 6-story apartment building in Seattle’s Othello neighborhood, was designed by JMA and constructed with an innovative modular process. As tenant occupancy is now underway, the building has been submitted for the Modular Building Institute’s Award of Distinction.

“This is the first building to utilize JMA’s reconfigurable kit of parts, which will allow for rapid iteration and development of future sites with NexGen Housing Partners,” said Principal Matt Laase. “The modular approach for this project is based on a concept known as Cubix which involves a repeatable set of modules that can be organized into studio, as well as 1 and 2-bedroom configurations.”

Located across the street from Othello Park, the 40,000 SF building offers 85 units in studio and 1-bedroom models. Residents are also within walking distance to the nearby Othello Light Rail Station.

Stunning Views

Cubix Othello offers stunning views of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountain Range.

The building’s first 5 stories are modular, and they sit atop a podium base with a multi-functional community space to serve residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
