900 Rainier Project to Provide Attainable Housing, Respect Historic Sites
900 Rainier Avenue South, a potential affordable housing development sitting next to Judkins Park and the historic Black Manufacturing Building, received an optimistic review from Seattle’s Landmarks Preservation Board.
“The board’s architectural review committee has given the project a lot of positive feedback,” said JMA project Manager Che Fortaleza who is overseeing the mixed-use development. “The board appreciates 900 Rainier’s relationship to the landmarked building next door and understands how the apartments will be reminiscent of a model historically employed throughout the city.”
900 Rainier Avenue South is designed as a 246,000 SF mixed-use building with 398 workforce and affordable apartments, as well as a ground floor retail space. Residents will enjoy scenic courtyards and rooftop decks, and easy access to the new Judkins Park Light Rail Station coming in 2023.
JMA, the project’s lead architect, is currently seeing the project through permit reviews with the Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections (SDCI). Construction is anticipated to begin this Spring, targeting completion in Spring 2024.
