WALLINGFORD HOME RECEIVES MODERN MAKEOVER
The homeowners of a 1918 single-story craftsman bungalow in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood approached JMA for assistance in updating and expanding their home to accommodate a growing family.
“I truly enjoyed working with our clients to transform their home into a bright and open modern space,” said JMA Principal Katerina Prochaska who designed the remodel and worked with interior designers from Tammara Stroud Design as well as the design-build contractor Model Remodel.
The newly remodeled home features a dark blue exterior, white trim, and black window frames to give the house and neighborhood a more modern presence. The existing main floor plan was revised to improve flow between each floor and increase natural light as well as connection to the outdoors.
The home’s narrow basement staircase was widened and moved to the center of the home, creating space for a breakfast nook and expanded main floor bathroom. The staircase, naturally lit with large windows, now connects all three levels including the second story addition which holds three bedrooms.
The formerly dark enclosed 1970’s kitchen was opened up to the dining area with a stunning island. A bay window and glass door leading to an exterior patio were added to create a bright and open layout. The remodel also created new opportunities for the homeowners to display their art collection.

Festivities
Holiday Party
JMA hosted a staff holiday party with snacks, karaoke, and a Legos station at its office in Pioneer Square. A virtual escape room adventure was also held for those who couldn’t attend in-person.
Escape room participants recreated a historical Antarctic Expedition from the 1910s. Cipher codes and geographical puzzles guided each team along the way, and a few actors played characters to help facilitate the adventure.

Thanksgiving Potluck
A thanksgiving potluck lunch was held at the office in November. Bacon mac & cheese, oven roasted brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, and Brazilian cheese bread were just some of the delicious foods prepared by staff.
