Alexan Marymoor Apartments Stand Out in “Marymoor Village”
Jackson | Main Architecture completed design work and required permitting on the Alexan Marymoor Apartments which opened in early 2019 and began to lease up quickly.
“It was exciting to be a part of a project in the emerging neighborhood dubbed ‘Marymoor Village’ on the Northeast edge of Marymoor Park,” said Architect Robin Murphy. “Several large mixed-use communities are currently under construction in this neighborhood, and we designed this first apartment building to fit in with the future growth around it.”
This sprawling complex of 4 separate, 5 story buildings is 285,000 SF and made up of 226 dwellings and 340 parking stalls. The 4 buildings comprise a “wrap” which is common in the SW United States, but not as common in the Redmond area. In a wrap, the apartment structure surrounds the parking garage on three to four sides. There is a circulation axis that runs through the central, two story lobby leading from the entry out to Marymoor Park and Lake Sammamish. Amenities include spaces for exercise and indoor/outdoor entertaining, as well as bike shops, secure storage, and pet grooming adjacent to the trails.
The design was well received by the City of Redmond’s Design Review Board and went through the permitting process smoothly. Due to the project’s projected impact on traffic, the city required that the developer include a new connector road that runs parallel to East Lake Sammamish Parkway NE and connects at NE 65th street at the north end of the property.
The apartments, developed by Trammell Crow Residential, offer views of the lake and easy access to a network of trails including the East Lake Sammamish River Trail. The neighborhood is currently home to warehouses, parking, and offices, but the new zoning now allows for 5 and 6 story apartments, retail spaces, and restaurants. Redmond’s Light rail extension is planned to be the center of this new community and the density is intended to fee the rail network.
