Update: Construction Progress on Self Storage Projects
JMA designed this two-story Extra Space Storage building on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The facility (one of two buildings designed for this client on the island) is 18,000 SF and includes a leasing office, restrooms, and an elevator. It is an innovative combination of stucco metal siding and large areas of glass.
Shoreline Self Storage, near completion, is a beautiful example of JMA’s safety-minded approach to self storage design. The 105,000 SF facility uses sliding glass doors, bright colors and large windows to capture and reflect natural light, creating strong visibility and way finding for its customers. It is also on track to be the second LEED certified self storage building in the state. (JMA designed the first, Ballinger Heated Storage).
JMA recently completed the redevelopment of an existing parking lot for West Coast Self Storage-Tacoma, a 3-story storage facility totaling 88,000 SF and delivering more than 700 units. To accommodate over 10 feet of grade change across the site, the design team developed a scheme that allows ground floor access on both the first and second level. This improved access in conjunction with the expansive covered loading zone delivers an exceptional customer experience. Project entitlement included both a rezone and variance application through the City of Tacoma.
