Newcastle Approves Mixed-Use Condominiums

Newcastle City Council voted 5 to 2 on Tuesday night to approve a development agreement for the Waterline Condominiums, a mixed-use project by Vibrant Cities.

“These condos will bring modern architecture, expanded parking options, and more retail sales tax for the growing eastside community,” said Principal Robin Murphy. “This approval is a great milestone for the project as the city had to approve modifications to the development standards to allow increased density, increased building height and a minor adjustment to one design requirement.”

Newcastle’s downtown plan focuses on preserving the existing character of surrounding single-family neighborhoods while still achieving population and density targets. JMA worked with the city to make sure the agreement protects single family neighborhoods and fulfills the vision for this modern development.

The five-story building will offer 62 residential units, a parking garage with 104 spaces, a rooftop deck, and 4,200 SF of commercial/retail space (enough for a restaurant). Residents will enjoy proximity to downtown Newcastle along with Hazelwood Park, Lake Boren, and the Coal Creak Natural Area- a protected second growth forest.

The next step is for Vibrant Cities to earn land use approval from the city. Construction is expected to begin in late 2022.
