Housing Options More Important Than Ever

Housing shortages have pushed Seattle families further out of the city and too often into homelessness. Housing solutions have proven to be especially important as people are mandated to stay home.

“The stay-at-home orders have reminded all of us about the importance of having practical and stable housing options in our society,” said Principal Matt Laase. “Our team continuously works on projects bringing new housing solutions to communities all over Puget Sound.”

As people continue living in quarantine, JMA’s housing projects are more important than ever. Check out our list of current housing projects below:


Townhomes

Greenwood Townhomes & Ambaum Townhomes – Burien, Washington
American Home Dream Group is developing the Greenwood Townhomes with two, three, and four-bedroom models at approximately 34,000 SF. The 20-unit project includes rooftop gardens along with a shared parking structure. The company is also developing the wood framed Ambaum Townhomes which are currently under construction. The project includes 23 units in two and three-bedroom models at approximately 43,200 SF.

Emerald Commons – Seattle, Washington
The Emerald Commons, also being developed by American Home Dream Group, include two and three-bedroom models at approximately 87,370 SF. The 43-unit project includes a children’s play area and gazebo.

Cubix Othello Modular Apartments – Seattle, Washington
Located near the light rail station in the emerging Othello neighborhood of Seattle, this project is 44,696 SF and includes 85 studio and one-bedroom residential units and shared community spaces at street level. The project is a progressive five-story volumetric modular structure over one level of concrete podium that broke ground in late 2018 and will be completed in 2020. This project is the next step in modular affordable urban design and is the first project to utilize a reconfigurable kit of parts, allowing for rapid iteration and development of future sites.

Roystone Apartments & NIWA Apartments – Seattle, Washington
Vibrant Cities, a Seattle multi-family real estate developer, has begun construction on the Roystone Apartments project and is nearing approval to begin the NIWA project. These eight-story mixed use apartment buildings in the Uptown neighborhood of Seattle’s lower Queen Anne include roof decks and ample amenities to support the added residents to the local community. The 74,096 SF Roystone Apartments have 93 units and the 97,101 SF NIWA Apartments have 125 units, each with ground floor retail and a below grade parking level. Completion of these projects is expected in 2022.

Zeal Lofts – Portland, Oregon
Not far from Portland’s Fremont Bridge, Vibrant Cities’ seven-story mixed use building is set to start construction toward the end of the year. The project is approximately 108,000 SF and includes 215 group living and apartment units, 6,700 SF of ground floor commercial space and below grade parking. JMA has also custom designed the unique interiors.

Acend – Portland Oregon
This 55,300 SF mixed-use, multi-family group living project for Vibrant Cities is under construction and is planned to be completed by the end of the year. Located in North Portland and near two other Vibrant Cities developments, the building includes four levels and 101 group living spaces and apartments over one story of grade level mixed use spaces with one level of below grade parking. JMA has also custom designed the interiors including the ground floor with five fully designed and furnished micro restaurants to cater to Portland’s vibrant food truck culture.

FargoPortland, Oregon
The seven-story 63,275 SF mixed use building with 100 residential units in Portland includes 1,500 SF of ground floor commercial space and at-grade parking. The building also incorporates a stormwater created green roof and a robotic car stacker system to make the parking structure more efficient.

Othello SEDU ApartmentsSeattle, Washington
Located in South Seattle near the Othello Station light rail stop, the seven-story mixed use building with 79 efficiency residential units and roughly 1,500 SF ground floor commercial space is scheduled to begin construction next year. JMA designed the custom interiors to blend with an unusually large public plaza, emphasizing the public/private interface.
